Sheila Fernekes

Using ancient techniques, Sheila Fernekes interweaves beads of glass, silver, gems and sometimes non-traditional materials to create contemporary jewelry. Her background as a graphic designer and illustrator is seen in her striking combinations of color, texture and pattern which are inspired by the vibrant rhythms and variations in Renaissance and Baroque music. Sheila carefully selects and individually hand weaves each bead to create the lush colors, patterns and textures that have become her trademark. Many of her materials have been collected during her extensive travels to Scandinavia, Holland, Russia, Italy, Spain, Greece, Canada, Mexico, the American Southwest and the Pacific Northwest.

Sheila creates her work in her home studio in Flemington, New Jersey and exhibits and sells her work primarily in juried shows. She holds state master status in the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and was awarded the Guild's 2014 Benchmark of Excellence Award for Unique Voice.

She is a juried member of the Bucks County Guild of Craftsmen, and a member artist at the Guild's Red Tulip Gallery in New Hope, Pennsylvania where her work can also be purchased.

Sheila served on the PA Guild state master status jury, and twice as floor juror for the Guild's Philadelphia Rittenhouse shows. She also served twice on the jury for the Morristown New Jersey CraftMarket. In May 2015, Sheila was awarded First Place for Jewelry at the Bruce Museum Fine Craft Fest.
